My great great grandmother, Dorothy Carless (nee Foster), was born in autumn 1884, and at age 2 her and her mother were put in workhouses. This was on and off until Dorothy was about 5. At this point, her mother presumably leaves her there as Dorothy is never mentioned on records in work houses with her mother again. By October 1889, aged 5, she was admissioned into Brighton Road School, and in August 1892, aged 7, she was admissioned into Witham School. She ended up getting married, and having four sons. Her daughter-in-law, my great-grandmother, told my nan that Dorothy was a fortune teller that read tarot cards or tea leaves and said that someone close to the family was about to die, a few months later in October 1937, she died from multiple cancers that had spread around her entire body. There's no birth certificate of a Dorothy Foster born in autumn 1884 in England, and her mother's name was Elizabeth Ann Foster born around 1861. There's a possibility she could be or have recent welsh ancestry, as my nan is 6% welsh on her DNA test and no one in her family was from wales.
